TAMPA — As Adrian Clayborn heads to the injured reserve list, help may be on the way for the Buccaneers defensive line.
Second-year DE Da’Quan Bowers is progressing steadily from a torn Achilles tendon suffered in May, declaring himself approximately a month away from returning to full-time action.
“There is still a long ways to go, I’m still about four weeks away,’’ said Bowers, who was placed on the physically unable to perform list a month ago. “Right now, I’m just taking it day by day. It’s up to coach (Greg) Schiano and (GM) Mark Dominik at the end of the day, so we’ll just see what they decide.’’
Bowers can begin practicing after Week 6, at which time the Bucs will have three weeks to decide whether to activate him or place him on injured reserve for the rest of the season.
“There are a lot of things I’m able to do physically,’’ said Bowers, a second-round pick out of Clemson who started the final six games of his rookie season at left end. “I’m doing everything I can, but I’m very cautious about what I’m doing.’’
